Sake Barrel Breaking Ceremony
Bringing you the Japanese tradition of the breaking of the sake barrel for prosperity, good health and wealth for your corporation or organization's celebrations.

What is it?
The Japanese Sake Barrel Breaking Ceremony (kagami biraki 鏡開き), is a 300 year-old tradition that symbolises prosperity and good fortune.
It is now currently used at various major events like weddings, New Year's Day, sporting events and most commonly, at opening ceremonies and companies' anniversaries.

Why do a Sake Barrel Breaking Ceremony?
Instead of cutting a red ribbon, this traditional Japanese ceremony is a deeply symbolic ritual rooted in Japanese Culture. The VIPS of the company or event will break the sake barrel on stage and distribute the sake to guests to share in the good fortune.
The cask is made of sweet mochi rice which represents ‘crème of the crop’, stating that the company hires only the best for themselves. The ‘breaking’ symbolizes new beginnings and hope for the future to come.
