How to Cook the Perfect Bowl of Japanese Rice
- Wash rice gently to retain its flavour.
- Drain rice well with colander.
- Place rice in rice cooker and add adequate amount of water (accordingly).
- Soak rice for at least 30 minutes.
- Switch on the rice cooker.
Fried Garlic Rice
- 2 portions of cooked Japanese rice
- 3 tablespoons Kewpie mayonnaise
- 5 cloves of garlic, chopped finely
- 2 stalks of spring onions, diced
- ½ onion, diced
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper
- Transfer cooked rice into a large bowl, while the rice is still warm, mix in mayonnaise.
- Heat the butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat and add garlic once melted.
- Stir-fry garlic for about a minute, add the onions and half of the spring onions. Stir-fry for 30 seconds.
- Add rice and soy sauce, cook until they are evenly combined.
- Move the rice to one side of the pan, add the eggs into the empty side of the frying pan.
- Scramble eggs until cooked. Mix eggs with rice
- Add salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with spring onions and enjoy!
Curry Rice
Ingredients (2 servings)
- 2 portions of cooked Japanese rice
- 3 tablespoons S&B dinner curry sauce mix flakes
- 200g beef, cubed
- ½ onions, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 potato, chopped
- 1/2 carrot, chopped
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cube of soup stock
- 700ml water
- 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions
- Stir-fry minced onion with oil over low heat until golden.
- Add meat and vegetables and stir-fry on medium heat for about 10 mins.
- Add water and soup stock cube and bring to boil.
- Reduce heat, cover and simmer until ingredients are tender.
- Add the curry flakes into the saucepan and stir continuously till the sauce thickens.
- Add salt to taste. Serve over rice and toppings of your choice.
Butadon (Pork Rice Bowl)
Ingredients (serves 2)
- 2 portions of cooked Japanese rice
- 1/4 bottle Morita Buta Don no Tare (Butadon Sauce)
- 250g thinly sliced pork loins or belly
- 1 small onion, sliced (optional)
- oil
Instructions
- Marinate the pork in 1 tablespoon of Morita Buta Don no Tare for 2 hours.
- Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Add onions and cook until softened and translucent. Set aside.
- Add pork slices to the pan, let them sear for 1-2 minutes. Cook on both sides till browned.
- Add remaining sauce and let it bubble. Reduce sauce until it thickens.
- Add cooked onions from before. Remove cooked pork and sauce away from heat.
- Layer pork over rice. Pour sauce over rice. Garnish with chopped spring onions.
